Homework is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their school experience. I assign homework daily because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits. The majority of
homework will be in reading, but some homework will be in math and science.

Parents are key to making homework a positive experience for their child. Therefore I ask that parents make homework a priority by: providing a quiet homework environment, setting a daily homework time, providing praise and support, and not letting children avoid homework. Setting a routine for homework in first grade will pay off greatly as your child’s homework becomes more involved in the upper grades.
Homework folders will begin in mid to late September when our reading groups start up. Your child’s homework may start off a bit simple until routines are firmly in place at home and at school. Please have your child read the reading booklet at least three times and return the folder and it’s contents to school the next day. Homework is not intended to be a “parent chore”. After the routine is firmly in place, your child should be able to retrieve their homework from their backpack themselves, read the booklet to you, and have you sign the folder all by themselves. I realize we all have busy lives, so by all means have your child read to you in the car or while making dinner etc. This routine will help them greatly!
Thank you so much for partnering with me in this homework routine!
